Many years ago, we stumbled upon a small house that doubled as a restaurant. This small hut, somewhere on the way to Pandavapura from Bangalore-Mysore highway, is popular for the only breakfast offered – Idly and chutney with butter.
Last weekend, we decided to re-visit this single man idly restaurant for the breakfast. This person operates the restaurant for a limited time – from 6.30 am to 11 am.
We were in Mysuru the previous day itself and that is why we could plan for early morning breakfast in this restaurant. We reached this one-man restaurant at sharp 7.45 am only to see a dozen people waiting for their share of idli.
This small eatery is been here since many years. I guess this is a popular idly destination among the locals and very few from faraway places know about this.
Not everybody will appreciate this place but those adventurous, ready to explore and who would not give much thought to hygiene may like to visit this eatery.
The person managing this restaurant does everything here. Right from preparing idly to serving it and from removing the plates to cleaning it. That is why it take more than 30 minutes to serve!
I would not comment about hygiene but would rate 7 out of 10 for taste and 9 out of 10 for the price. Why not if eight idly’s cost you Rs. 25/-? You can ask for more chutneys until you have that last idly in your plate.
Our next destination was Gumbaz in Srirangapatna.
